Call for Submissions:
Chickadee Chaps & Broads Third Annual Letterpress Broadside Contest
Chickadee Chaps & Broads welcomes poetry submissions by Vermonters for their third Broadside Contest. The winner will receive five copies of their poem as a handset-letterpress printed and illustrated, limited edition broad, as well as a complimentary three-night stay at the Craftsbury Writer's Retreat.
The winning broad will also be on public display in downtown Montpelier during the month of April as part of PoemCity's month-long poetry festivities. Two finalists will each receive mention in publicity as well as one copy of the winning broadside.
Postmark deadline: February 1, 2015.
Entry Fee: $15.
Submission Guidelines: Submit up to three poems (30 line limit, please). Previously published ok — but please acknowledge where.
To enter via email: Email brief bio along with your name, address and phone, and attach three poems as a single pdf to: email@example.com. Entry fee is payable via PayPal to same email address. All submissions will be acknowledged.
To enter via mail: Items may be submitted via snail mail to May Day Studio, 190 River Street, Montpelier, VT 05602. Checks should be made to Kelly McMahon. Please include SASE. Items mailed will not be returned. Please do not send originals or your only copy. All submissions will be acknowledged.
Winner will be notified via mail/email by March 1, 2015, and announced on our website.
We are pleased to announce that Vermont Poet Mary Ruefle will be our 2015 Broadside contest final juror!
Mary Ruefle is the author of 15 books including her most recent collection of poems, Trances of the Blast (Wave Books, 2013). She has received fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation, as well as a Whiting Writers' Award. Her work has been anthologized in Best American Poetry, Great American Prose Poems (2003) and American Alphabets: 25 Contemporary Poets (2006). She teaches at the Vermont College of Fine Arts.
Chickadee Chaps & Broads is a small, spirited project producing and celebrating letterpress printed literature by Vermont writers, founded in 2011 by Kelly McMahon of May Day Studio (www.maydaystudio.com) in Montpelier, VT and Julia Shipley, caretaker of the Craftsbury Vermont Writer's Retreat (www.writingonthefarm.com)
